On December 3, 2025, the Clough Center will welcome Jill Lepore to campus. Professor Lepore will talk about her newly published book: We the People: A History of the U.S. Constitution (Livernight Publishing, 2025), already a New York Times bestseller.

Jill Lepore is the David Woods Kemper ’41 Professor of American History at Harvard University and Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. This event is co-sponsored by the Burns Library and will be held at the Thompson Room in Burns Library (Boston College main campus) from 5-7 pm.
Lepore serves as a staff writer for The New York Times. She is a prolific writer who has received the PEN prize for the Art of the Essay, among other awards. Her book These Truths: A History of the United States, in which she highlighted the importance of analyzing evidence and practicing historical inquiry, was an international bestseller.

In We the People, Lepore elaborates on the history of the U.S. Constitution. “For Lepore, the Constitution’s history cannot be traced simply from its drafting in Philadelphia in 1787 to its ratification by the states in the following three years, nor even through the centuries of formal amendments and judicial interpretation after its passage,” writes The New York Times.
This book talk, which marks the last program of the Clough Center in Fall 2025, promises an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
