We are extremely pleased to host Professor Daron Acemoglu, who will deliver a speech at the Clough Center’s Spring Symposium 2026 (March 19-20). Acemoglu is a 2024 Nobel laureate in Economics. He is a world-renowned scholar of political economy who has written some of the most influential books on the history of institutions, development, and technology. Chief among them is Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty(co-authored with James A. Robinson), one of the most read books in political economy.

Daron Acemoglu is an MIT Institute Professor (the highest title awarded to faculty members) and an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Econometric Society, and the Society of Labor Economists. His academic work covers a wide range of areas, including political economy, economic development, economic growth, inequality, labor economics, and economics of networks.
