We are excited to announce that Professor Daniel Ziblatt has joined the Clough Center as a Faculty Affiliate for the 2025-26 academic year. Currently, Ziblatt is Eaton Professor of Government at Harvard University and director of the Transformations of Democracy group at Berlin’s Social Science Center. In 2024, Professor Ziblatt spoke at the Clough Center’s annual Fall Colloquium. You can watch his lecture about the future of democracy in Europe here.

Professor Ziblatt has written some of this century’s most influential works on democracy. These include Conservative Parties and the Birth of Democracy (2017) and, with Steven Levitsky, Tyranny of the Minority (2023). He also co-wrote How Democracies Die (2018), which the Economist described as “the most important book of the Trump era.”
Professor Ziblatt’s presence at the Clough Center will benefit students, faculty, and the broader community of Boston College.
